Beatitude House
Welcome to Beatitude House, where we have been creating a safe place to call home for thousands of women and children since 1991. Inspired by a made-for-television movie, Sister Margaret Sheetz developed a program to tackle the obstacles homeless women and children face. Today, at any given time, 100 women and children reside at Beatitude House. From a lack of formal education to battles with domestic violence, there are many reasons women become homeless. We provide a second chance. The goal of our participants is to further their education, gain better paying jobs and obtain permanent residency - proven solutions to ending the cycle of poverty.
We are sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters, and together we are committed to disadvantaged women and children through the following programs:
- Transitional Housing: Provides homeless women and children a place to live. The women who participate in this program live in one of our fully furnished apartments for a period of two years during which they work on furthering their education, gaining a better paying job and obtaining permanent residency.
- Permanent Supportive Housing: Provides long-term rental assistance and support services to women with disabilities or who have a child with a disability.
- Education and Career Preparation Program: The Potter's Wheel is designed to enable disadvantaged women to identify and reach their personal, educational and career goals. Services such as career counseling, computer literacy, tutoring, GED Preparation, English as a Second Language, life skills and much more are provided. In 2009, we created the Beatitude House blue Clean, an environmentally friendly cleaning service. This is a worker-owned cooperative that allows low income women to gain valuable work experience and the opportunity to become worker-owners in the business.
By creating homes, providing educational opportunities and fostering healthy families, we provide women and their children with the opportunity to transform their lives.
